Traveling to Lagos & Abuja, Nigeria 1st time
Any tips?
Warnings?
Hot Spots?
Advice?
I'll be there for the entire month of Feb and I'm actually nervous af
I heard about their airport
But I'm certainly more anxious than nervous.
Should I carry cash with me? My credit cards and bank card?
If I bring cash, should I only bring big bills (50's and 100's) to help me maximize their conversion rates?
Any bit of advice is def appreciated thanks in advance.

Are you going alone?
I've never been to Nigeria before but I can almost guarantee it won't be as dangerous as you expect. Just use caution like you would in any other big city. Don't carry more cash than you need and don't go to areas at night that seem sketchy. I've never heard about big bills getting better conversion rates.

They put gay people in prison so i'd try not to be effeminate or do anything that shows you're gay (if you're going with a boyfriend or something).
Have a fun trip though!

LMAO I'm Nigerian and you hv absolutely nothing to be anxious about, stay in popular hotels, don't do random hookups, the bills u carry don't matter, the value of the naira is pretty low right now, dollar and pounds are readily welcomed since those are hard to get, be cautious, make sure you hv locks on your travel bag... Naija is fun enjoy yourself and becareful, most of all be wise!

Not sure if you would need to go with credit cards but it could be best to for identification purposes. As an West African person myself (not from Naija tho), I would say you should be weary about your belongings because once it gets stolen, you're very unlikely to get it back.
It's not like western police systems where the police will carry out every single step to solve your case, that's not really the case back in Africa.
You should also go with stuff like insect creams, mosquito repellent cream to protect yourself from mosquitoes, however it's probably sold over there too including mosquito nets, sprays etc.
EDIT: And also be wise about who you deal with case they try to pull 419 on you!

I was around family most of the time I was there last so I felt pretty safe. I just hated the airports tho. make sure you arrange for a pick up there and hopefully you won't have your luggage lost like I did.

Have family there, also been there a few times.
Put as much of your personal belongings as you can into your hand luggage, only put clothes and maybe stuff you can afford to lose in your main bag. Yeah the airports are prone to losing luggage and also sometimes the baggage handlers stealing stuff, but I don't think that happens much anymore
No much warnings. There are unfavourable gay laws, but as you're a foreigner, you don't have to worry much about prison, you do have to worry about people trying to blackmail you on grindr though, usually just to extort you- money, personal belongings etc.
Lagos & Abuja actually have a fun night life, there are loads of clubs, restaurants & stuff especially in the Victoria Island area in Lagos (if that's where you're staying). For Abuja, the good parts in are Central Business District, Maitama, Wuse 2 and a few others
For warnings, besides the above, also plan your movements well, traffic in Lagos is horrible, Abuja is much better though.
Due to the ****** economy and exchange situation, might be difficult using your credit cards/bank cards, so I'd say carry enough cash.
Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions

Oh yeah, be careful of what you eat, Nigerian cuisine sometimes doesn't agree with everyone lol. I've known about 5 people come here, decide to experiment with new stuff, and ended up with food poisoning for a few days
