I've recently got into this amazing album. I'm totally obsessed. Barely listened to anything else in the last month. It's LOOOOONG - but once you sit down and give it to it, it's pure genius.
Think of it. The repetition in the songs, both lyrically and melodically, is tailored so beautifully it's quite insane.
- The way Aaron Burr's questions set up scenes so well.
- The way there are different patterns of different groups of people (like the Schuylers, Hamilton himself, King George etc)
- The way bits and pieces of different songs fit into other songs
I know these more or less happen in all musicals, but the way they are so complex within this story just amazes me.
Also, the following songs just SNATCH me every single freaking time
- The Schuyler Sisters - Peggy is hilarious, the other two sisters' characters are established so perfectly
- Satisfied - So gutwrenching and heartfelt.
- (Wait For It)
- Burn - See my comments on Satisfied x 10
- It's Quiet Uptown - beautiful
- Stay Alive - It's amazing how the song develops
- Stay Alive Reprise - Eliza reacting to seeing her son that way just destroys me. And the way the reprise contrasts the original song just goes to show how versatile the music is while fitting in perfectly.
And the lyrical content is also genius. Every line and every melody is tailored for each character.
And the talent. Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Leslie Odom Jr SNATCH me every time they open their mouths.
