Discussion: Anyone vegan/vegetarian?

Hello. Pretty much a space where vegans/vegetarians can share tips, recipes, etc. I'm not one but I kind of want to become one, so if there's other people interested: welcome.
I've read a lot and I'm a ecofriendly guy. I recently discovered the meat industry is responsable for an awful lot of contamination, plus I really like animals so it makes me kinda sad how they are slaughter for 'my good'. Also, I've also read it's a lot healthier.
So, share please. Thanks.

I'm a new vegetarian (it's been 3 months).
My family is not supportive because they say meat is essential.
I keep telling them we can find what we find in meat in other food, like fish or eggs for example, but they don't listen to me.
I don't really miss meat anyway and not eating any permits me to save money (good meat is expansive).
As far as recipes are concerned, I like all kind of salads, fruits, fish, soup, pasta, tofu & vegetables.
They are tons of sites out there with plenty of easy recipes for those who want to try it.

Blur, if you eat fish then you are NOT a vegetarian.
I've been a vegetarian for 9 years. I'll go into more detail later when I get home, I'm using my phone now.

LOL. I read something about pesco-vegetarian. Anyway, a friend told another friend (vegan btw) that she'd give up everything but fish, and she told her it was a great contribution anyway... So, at least (s)he's giving up red meat and chicken!

It is.
vegetarians say "nah it isn't, I'm perfectly healthy without it," but that's because they stop eating it after they are already grown up. try not giving your child meat at all, it won't even grow up normal.

You don't need to be rich.

I tried.....
Couldnt....
Not worth it.
I love my beef......
Anyway, I try to restrict my meat quantity to the minimum. (3 times a week)
And avoid eating hamburgers and kebabs
But I love chicken and my Spanish jam
But I did tried once. Tofu and soy are not for me

I thought protein was required to grow, and some nuts and stuff have protein, so why wouldn't they grow?

because they don't have the needed amount of protein and it is just not the same. do you seriously believe a child can grow healthy eatling nuts?
eating meat is natural. being vegetarian is like saying that tigers should stop killing antelopes and start eating ****ing grass.
i mean, I don't want to be disrespectful to vegetarians and I have a lot of respect to people who have the will to avoid the most delicious food on earth, but imo it's not right.

Actually living on your own is quite expansive in Paris.
Buying healthy stuff (most are ready made because I can barely cook in my tiny kitchen) cost twice the price of buying cheap stuff in normal foodstore.

I'd rather hurt myself than be eating something that lived. It just doesn't make sense to me to eat life, to be the reason for death. And honestly I don't think I'm hurting myself, I mean smoking, drinking, doing drugs - those things hurt people who do them (and their families.) Being a vegetarian doesn't hurt you.
It's the same as any diet. It could be healthy or could be the opposite. It depends on the indivdual person and how they're watching what they're eating and making sure to get everything they need. I doubt everyone who eats meat is following a healthy diet.
Quick fact I remember from Bio way back when- most societies come by diets that don't have meat and prevent protein deficiency, by accident. For example the staple Mexican diet of corn tortilla and beans has all the amino acids needed.

Just to clear up confusion, you CAN live without meat as long as you get your protein from another source. That's the only reason to eat meat. Actually, most bugs have more protein than a piece of meat. There are also protein shakes and other protein enriched foods. Also, red meat isn't the best for you. Chicken and other similar meats are healthy for you, but you really shouldn't be eating a lot of red meat.
I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian. I'm just stating the FACTS.
I could never be a vegetarian or a vegan. My favorite food is steak. (Yeah, I know, I just contradicted what my first paragraph said.) I love chicken, I love beef, I love pork, etc. The only thing I don't condole eating is baby animals. Veal? No thank you.
