Mariah's Manager, Stella, Releases Statement to Billboard
I used to the search, but didn't see a topic posted, so if for some reason it was posted in some thread, my apologies, but I searched and couldn't find it.
Quote:
Following Mariah Carey's troubled performance on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, the singer's manager, Stella Bulochnikov, has issued a statement to Billboard.
"We told them [the stage managers] that the in-ears were not working 10 minutes before the performance," Bulochnikov says. "They then changed the battery pack, and they were still not working on the frequency four minutes before the show. We let them know again, and they just kept counting her down and reassuring her that they will work as soon as they go live, which never happened -- at which point she pulled them out but could not hear the music over the crowd."
She continues: "After the show, I called [Dick Clark Productions'] Mark Shimmel and I said, 'What the f--- happened?' He said, 'Let me call you back,' then called me back and confirmed the in-ears were not working and asked if I would make a joint statement. I said, 'No way.' I asked him to cut the West Coast feed. He said he could not do that. I asked him why would they want to run a performance with mechanical glitches unless they just want eyeballs at any expense ... It's not artist friendly, especially when the artist cut her vacation short as a New Year's Eve gift to them."
Dick Clark Productions also provided a statement Sunday evening (Jan. 1), refuting the claims from Carey's camp:
"As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists. To suggest that dcp, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd. In very rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television, however, an initial investigation has indicated that dcp had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance. We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry."

Her camp's job is to defend her. That being said I don't believe Stella at all.

I still blame Mariah for the most part. She booked the gig last minute and didn't come prepared. Of course there would be problems. I also don't trust anything her team is saying on the matter, it's just damage control at this point.
What Mariah needs to do is lay low for a while and let it blow over instead of constantly trying to defend herself.

She wasn't performing 10 songs and it's not like she dances and has elaborate choreography.... ****, she even has her dancers trying to carry her ass around the stage and down the steps for her tired diva persona. She f'd up and needs to take responsibility.

That diva 'persona' sure has your attention. Job accomplished I'd say?
My ex served Mariah in a private venue a couple months back and that 'persona' you speak of existed then, too. Perhaps that's just her personality? Just a thought...

I'm confused on whether you're trying to defend her or you're agreeing that she's a self-absorbed bitch?

She still was going to lip sync even if the damn in ear worked. I have taken classes in live sound and ALL artist use a monitoring system that plays the music from the stage in case the in-ear fails and for the dancers to keep beat since they don't have in-ears. That's why you see singers take out the in ear if it doesn't work and they use the monitor. Kelly Clarkson had a similar thing during the Orange Bowl in 2005 but she used the monitor and sang live.
You can tell she could hear herself because whenever she tried to sing live she came in on the beat. If she couldn't hear the beat at all she would have been off time but she wasn't also the dancers were in sync so they could hear the monitor. She wasn't prepared to sing live and got caught lip syncing. Yes there could have been something wrong with the in ear but she should have either used the monitor or not gone on stage at all and made an ass out of herself.

Emotions would of slayed then. Because there was NO lead vocal to lip sync to.

Honestly I'm more confused as to why people are so outraged like she's never lip synched before in her life and as if they didn't know her voice has been off the rails for years now. This whole ordeal has been blown so far out of proportion. Artists lip synch all the time for one reason or another. At least Mariah has a legacy to back it up, unlike most other artists who lip synch out of sheer laziness and lack of talent.
