10s electronic music vs Funk-disco revival vs PBR&B urban
3 of the most popular musical trends of the decade.
10s electronic music includes good ol EDM, euro-pop, Swedish synth pop, Romanian/Dutch house music, tropical house, trap, techno, dubstep. This is basically early Gaga/Kesha stuff, or Robyn for example, also Avici, Diplo and so on. It was the biggest musical trend in Europe during the early 10s, but of course crossed over to both Americas as well as Canada.
The disco-funk revival began around late 2012, with Bruno's Treasure/LOOH, Daft Punk's whole RAM album including Get Lucky, mid-2013 was at the time a disco fest all over the world, you had Blurred Lines, JT's Take Back the Night, even Arcade Fire's Reflektor was influenced by this genre, same goes for Todd Terje, Breakbot, Pharrell Williams, HAIM, Beyoncé (Blow from self-titled)... This trend got even more popular with Uptown Funk, Sugar, Can't Feel My Face, Can't Stop The Feeling....
And of course, the biggest trend in America as of now, urban trap / alt hip hop music mixed with alternative R&B elements. This is everything from Miguel, M.I.A. and Frank to Kanye, Drake, Azealia and Rae Sremmurd, albums like BEYONCÉ, LP1, Take Care, BBTM etc have been significantly trendy over the last 4 years.
Of course other trends like Pop-soul, rock, indie pop/rock have also been massively relevant. But which of these 3 you prefer and which you think defines the sound of 2010s?
