A New York man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a tourist in the head with a steak knife, just days after the victim had proposed to his girlfriend in Central Park.
Connor Rasmussen, 23, had traveled to New York city to propose to his girlfriend but their holiday went horribly awry when Steven Tlapanco, 20, left a knife embedded in the back of his head on December 18, police said.
Tlapanco turned himself in Wednesday for the gruesome assault, and Rasmussen said he was relieved to hear it: 'Now that's not going to happen to anyone else,' he told The New York Daily News.
Rasmussen was looking for a pizza joint with friends on the corner of Madison Avenue and E 46th St, in the heart of Manhattan's Midtown district, when he was attacked.
At first he didn't realize he had been stabbed, he said, but felt the handle of the blade sticking out of the back of his head, near the neck.
Only after he'd pulled the steak knife out did he realize what had happened, and began to staunch the blood pumping from the base of his skull.
