If Beyonce was Taylor at The 2015 Grammys, outcome?
I hear almost everyone justifying Beyonce's lost for Album of The Year at The 2015 Grammy Awards, respecting the committee's decision to award Beck.
Imagine Beyonce had been Taylor Swift, a white woman, at the 2015 Grammy's.
Imagine that Taylor had released a surprise album with no prior promotion, that impacted the way labels went about releasing an artist's new music with little to no promotion, no announcement, and/or by surprise and literally changed the worldwide release date from Tuesdays to Fridays.
Imagine that Taylor's album proved to be her most personal, most bold work of art to date with universal praise and high critical acclaim left and right with a metacritic score of 85 with Beck's standing at 81.
Imagine that Taylor's album came packaged with 14 songs, co-written and co-produced by some of music's biggest names as well as some talented new comers and/or relatively unknown but still very talented key people.
Imagine that Taylor filmed 17 music videos, high budget music videos, videos like Haunted, Superpower, Partition, Mine, some of her best to date and released singles like XO, Pretty Hurts, great pop songs and was credited for beginning a conversation on what a feminist should be, with everybody left and right joining in, (***Flawless).
Imagine that Taylor released an album that literally made iTunes crash with worldwide sales of up to 4.5 Million as of Feb 2015 while Beck's album sat at 300,000 copies sold by the same time.
I ask you, would you for a second think that The Grammy Committee and it's system could be flawed in any way possible? Would it sit well knowing Taylor was wrongly done, especially when her album broke records, changed the standards, and was a critic favourite?
I mean Taylor, now a 2 time Album of The Year Grammy Winner, has won with two albums that sit at a 73 and 76 metacritic scores indicating positive but not universal praise, have sold immensely, one being a year's best-seller, but has had little to no impact as far as how a label chooses to release a set, by surprise, with little to no promotion or bt some other form of unconventional release that proves to be a trend setter....
If Taylor has been able to do it, why hasn't Beyonce? Come next year's Grammys and if and when Lemonade loses will you be convinced that the committee is rigged?
