Students given play-doh to cope with election results
Quote:
For the vast majority of Americans, November 9 only differed from the week preceding it in the lack of political ads permeating their media. For many, it was a welcome end to months upon months of hateful rhetoric and horrible slanders.
On many college campuses, however, it wasn't the end of the campaign, but the beginning of Armageddon or something.
At Yale University, supposedly one of the most elite institutions of higher learning in the country, an anonymous professor has decided to let students skip their midterms:
“I am getting many heartfelt notes from students who are in shock over the election returns,” the professor wrote in an email to his students, according to Yale Daily News Managing Editor Jon Victor tweeted.
However, that professor's decision was far from being the silliest example:
At Tufts University, arts and crafts were on offer. And the University of Kansas reminded students via social media of the therapy dogs available for comfort every other Wednesday.
“People are frustrated, people are just really sad and shocked,” said Trey Boynton, the director of multi-ethnic student affairs at the University of Michigan. “A lot of people are feeling like there has been a loss. We talked about grief today and about the loss of hope that this election would solidify the progress that was being made.”
There was a steady flow of students entering Ms. Boynton’s office Wednesday. They spent the day sprawled around the center, playing with Play-Doh and coloring in coloring books, as they sought comfort and distraction.

Good.
People make a fuss about this cause of the students angle, but this is literally what colleges have Campus Life departments for. They have ****ing therapy dogs in libraries for kids to play with during finals - it's suddenly bad to have therapeutic programs proven to help decompress after traumatic news?
The way people refuse to see how this election is traumatic for many is so sad.
If someone you loved die, you'd need time and ways to cope.
To many, their place is America is basically threatened and in danger. They need to cope.
These things help students, especially minority and LGBT students, cope with the trauma.

If these people can't handle an election result without regressing to childishness, they will never handle the real world.

Good grief, are adults never supposed to play with anything anymore? Or feel stressed and want to reminisce?

I don't think it's that serious. I also hope you treat yourself with doing things deemed as "childish" because it's always really relaxing and fun. Go watch a cartoon hun, life can be beautiful

These people were so 'traumatised' by an election result that they had to cancel classes and play with play doh. Read that sentence out aloud and tell me with a straight face that it isn't a monstrous overreaction, and quite frankly hugely unhelpful for their preparation for what happens in the real world when they don't get what they want.

"Childishness"?
Arts and crafts are can only be done by children?
What would you suggest they do, go snort coke and binge-drink until they get alcohol poisoning?
Y'all claim SJWs are sensitive yet get MAD cause adults have the right to play with coloring books. Go back to Stormfront or Breitbart or whatever **** you visit, you pretentious Nazi. I'm sick of you
Jesus Christ, get a hobby.

Yes, something that is affecting their life made them want to have a little fun with something from their childhood.
Are adults supposed to never play when they feel pain? Do adults go do their routines and jobs every single day without fail? Even when things are too stressful and they feel their lives might change? No.
They took a day off, and college students skip for even less. I'm sure once they get over the shock they will study just fine and go on with their education.

yes clearly being upset by something that will dramatically change the course of the country you live in for years means you can't handle the "real world" (because apparently college isn't real enough, i guess?)

and if you think getting a (most likely temporary) therapy dog for this is bad, you're just a complete moron. helping people cope with things that make them feel bad is literally the ENTIRE point of a therapy dog.
also, therapy dogs are already a common feature on many college campuses during certain events that cause high amounts of stress to students (like finals week). so i have no idea how it's apparently a bad thing now but wasn't complained about at all before. i think that's pretty telling, actually.
but feelings are apparently only for SJWs, i guess
honestly, to me it seems that people getting legitimately bothered by this are just posturing to look cool and disaffected because that's the hip thing on the internet for some reason

Well, frankly these students should be ANGRY if not with themselves if they didn't vote.
Mitigating these feelings is a form of justifying Trump.

Why are people here against adults helping themselves and trying to make themselves feel better?
Its not "childish" and these stuff actually really help, I'm planning on getting a coloring book soon because this is really helpful for stress actually
ATRL really needs to stop saying that people are just "overreacting" when we all saw the attacks on minorities that took place after the elections, these students have the right to feel stressed and scared and if you judge them its just pathetic
