In another sign that K-Pop is preparing to crossover into the international market, Girls’ Generation (also known as SNSD) have scored a feature article on Billboard.com. This makes them the second Korean act in the last few weeks to be featured on Billboard — which is considered somewhat of a music industry bible — after male pop trio JYJ filmed some live performances for the website and gave an interview detailing their attempts to crack the US with their English-language album The Beginning.
While SNSD’s Billboard feature mainly focused on the girls’ hugely successful foray into the Japanese music market and the popularity of their video’s on Youtube, Billboard go on to say that the 9-member group may target Europe in 2011. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a North American release just yet.
SNSD were recently voted the second best girl group in Korea after Wonder Girls, and the No.1 most popular in Japan.
K-Pop looks set to be a big deal in 2011. In addition to SNSD and JYJ, 2NE1 as you all know will be heading to the States with Will.i.am, Wonder Girls will be releasing a new US single and possibly a full-length English studio album, and BoA will be back in America to film a lead role in a new dance flick.
