The UK is a unitary state but with devolved power. I think we should look at becoming federal but I'm not sure it'd work considering the vast difference in size between the nations. It really depends on the country which is better, tho.
Neither is better. Both have their pros and cons. It all depends on the specific circumstances of a country. Unitary is ideal for small and homogenous states. A federal form of government is suitable to countries which have many different religious, ethnic, linguistic, or cultural groups. It addresses their needs and issues more effectively.
