Multiple writers looked down upon on atrl
por que?
Art that is a result of multiple collaborators seems to be looked down upon on atrl for some reason. People shade artists that have multiple writers on the song regardless if they contributed words or a beat and claim those with less writers are better or are more authentic.
If the house on the left took one person to complete does it make it better than the house on the right if four people built it?
If one person painted the picture on the left does it make it better than the painting on the right if five people painted it?
Saw you there and I thought oh my god
Look at that face, you look like my next mistake
Love's a game, wanna play
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain't it funny rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let's be friends
I'm dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I could make the bad guys good for a weekend
Let's imagine for a moment that you never made a name for yourself
Or mastered wealth, they had you labeled as a king
Never made it out the cage, still out there movin' in them streets
Never had the baddest woman in the game up in your sheets
Would they be down to ride?
No, they used to hide from you, lie to you
But y'all know we were made for each other
So I find you and hold you down
If three people wrote the first song does it make it better than the second song if it took 15 writers?

Co-writing can help creators with different talents and strengths to create a new song that neither could have been able to devise if they were working alone.

Is this method wrong? Should artists create products by themselves and not receive help or share ideas?

People here are going to "kii " but those are actually good analogies. Anyway, it's just an ignorant viewpoint, especially when the songs they often drag for having multiple writers usually have so many due to samples

Virtually nobody here has any tangible working experience in the music industry, so it is natural that ATRL's general (failed) analyses & critiques of artists having multiple cowriters lack nuance and therefore credibility.

Maybe it's because those artist who have multiple co writers ( and only get writing credits for arranging vocals) are trying to be viewed in the same light as songwriters like Adele, Taylor and Mariah. Artist that have lead writing credits and are involved in the process of making the song from scratch to completion. Also, how do we know if the artist with 15 writers ever contribute much to the song besides changing a few words? At the end of the day. Writing a song by your self is more impressive than a song written by a small army of people.

Think of it the other way around.
 .....
If I told you the house on the left was built by 43 people, but the house on the right was built by 6, it doesn't make either house better than the other. But it is definitely more impressive, and you develop a higher respect for those who created something of equal quality with less help (the right).

This is offensive to van Gogh. He created The Starry Night by himself.
OT: The reason less involvement is seen as the "better" of the two is because it makes the end result more impressive, especially if it's good. Take Art Angels (and any of Grimes' work for that matter) - the entire thing (sans the lyrics of the two featured vocalists) was created only by her. That's incredible, especially since it's a great album. Would it have been any worse as an album had we received the exact same end product created by 15+ people in total? No - but the fact that it was all done by only one person (again, sans the featured artists' lyrics) says something I think. You can apply this to other "less involvement = better" arguments as well.

A good song is a good song, regardless of # of writers.

Not many people care unless you're lying about your involvement and stealing credits

A great song is a great song, regardless of the number of writers.

If it's a personal/emotional song it feels more genuine with less writers

However, the former would be more impressive if you're praising said artists songwriting capabilities.
At the end of the day, a great song is a great song.

The post above you further explains my point. Sometimes it's not about the end result, but the process that caused it to end up that way.

I think it's okay to use multiple writers for light fun bops.
but when you start making songs you claim are 'personal' to you, about say, drug abuse, or past relationships, or someone's cheated on you, then those lyrics should come from you and you only. If you are going to market an album as being the "most personal yet" then you damn sure better have written it all yourself or else you lose all credibility. Or else it's not true. it's not personal when a paid songwriter hired by the record label wrote it for you.
And if you are going to have someone write your most personal stuff, then that tells me you are not creative enough to even write music that is about YOU. I mean.. how are you going to need songwriters to write about your own life experience? Don't you call yourself an artist? Then act like one. Or else, just accept the role as "singer" and gather your coins. let the praise go to the true creative forces.

It reminds me of ATRL's obsession (well, that of contemporary music fans) with a singer writing their own music. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool if you are multi-talented, but I just find it funny that people here seem to view one who writes or produces their own material as inherently more artistic or talented than one who doesn't. It seems to me that MANY pop girls who "sing, write, produce and play instruments" would do better to spread some of the work around, looking at the way their finished products turn out.
It has always been the case in classical music that you had your composers, librettists (lyricists, basically), and musicians (including the singers), not to mention conductors, etc. And they produced significantly more complex, timeless, and well structured work than contemporary "I can do everything myself" artists. I come from the mindset that it's best everyone plays to their strengths, than trying to do everything oneself, but that's just my take
