My friend and I were just talking about this.. I think teachers deserve way more money than what they are getting paid .. After all we need teachers to teach those who want to become doctors.

Teachers in the US usually work way more than that lol. High school goes from 8 to 3, plus they must have after school tutoring and usually must be coaches, have lunch duty, attend training and workshops etc. And the vacation is forced, many have to seek work during the summer

Don't know about paying them as much as doctors but if we implemented the Finnish system that'd be great. They deserve more and children deserve more too.

I think teachers in Canada are paid fairly tbh. Most do 4 years in uni and maybe a year of teaching school so it's not a very long or difficult program.
Also:So they get paid 55k a year, have a ton of benefits, every holiday vacation is paid and they get summers off. They 100% should not be paid as much as doctors.

Those doctors wouldn't be doctors if it weren't for the almost two decades of schooling they go through Let's not pretend both occupations aren't necessary in any prosperous society. And setting the bar higher for teachers would do guarantee there are less incompetent teachers, imo.

I would agree that teachers in primary school work long days, but high school teachers don't actually work from 8 to 3. They usually have like a few classes a day.

Maybe in the sciences, but humanities professors are definitely not earning as much as a general physician nowadays in the US (and that's ok--medicine is a more complex profession. A Latin professor doesn't have the same accountability as someone prescribing medicine or performing surgery).

Pretty much this. Teachers deserve to be paid a lot more, however the education system and its educators need a lot of revamping here in the U.S.

Maybe not in Belgium. In the US they sure teach most of that time period. Their free block is used for lesson planning, but that's not enough and many teachers end up having to grade or design their lessons at home too.
