Discussion: What do you think about Chechnya?

Chechnya and Chechens are a controversial minority group in Russia, with two wars being fought with Chechnya since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Americans might associate the country with the two Boston bombers. Since 2007, the Chechen Republic has been ruled by Ramzan Kadyrov, as appointed by Vladimir Putin. Some people think that he is a puppet and traitor to the Chechen people, but are afraid of voicing their opinion for fear of harassment, kidnapping, and death. What are ATRL's thoughts? Are they misunderstood?

I think it's a very weird place and situation. Don't they vote for Putin with 99%+ votes and 95%+ people going to the polls?

The documentary I linked kind of explains the political climate there. Their president was put in by Putin, so everything is pro-Putin. The people can't speak out otherwise they get targeted by the government of Chechnya, and bad things happen. As you can see in the documentary, one government crony was waving a gun around willing to shoot Chechen immigrants in Germany with Love You Like A Love Song playing in the background
