First Beyoncé schooled us all in love, and now a university is schooling their students in Beyoncé.
This semester, painfully lucky students at The University of Texas at San Antonio can sign up for a class called "Black Women, Beyoncé & Popular Culture." Students who take the course will spend the semester exploring the singer's visual album, Lemonade, and its relationship to black feminism.
Yes, students can get actual, real credit for listening to Beyoncé, and yes, this is real university, not a happy figment of your imagination.
The class meets three times a week and is organized by the album's themes and tracks, beginning with "Formation" and ending with "All Night." Professor Kinitra Brooks, who created the course, will also be teaching it.
While the class may look like an easy A from the outside, Professor Brooks plans to hold her students up to high expectations. The class isn't just an opportunity to listen to one of 2016's best singers and best albums. Brooks requires that her students be "mature," "self-directed" critical thinkers.
Like almost all of the universities in the US offer a Beyoncé course or Beyoncé themed course Her cultural impact is just undescribable. Even at my university if you ctrl+f Beyoncé in course descriptions she comes up like 10 times
The only three pop stars were briefly mentioned in my feminism courses at uni were beyonce, Gaga and Taylor. Beyonce was used when we spoke about race intersrctions, Gaga was used when we spoke about queer theories and Taylor was used when speaking of white privilege I took a photo in class of my prof going in on Taylor's shake it off mv. She's one of my favs so it was hard to watch but entertaining nonetheless
So you pay for that class if you take it ? Don't see how what they said is wrong
You pay tuition, and then you can take any classes that are offered. You don't pay for the class directly (you can if you're just visiting, but the majority of students will already be there pursuing a major).
There are many courses on Beyoncé's career and the Lemonade album in universities all over the country. You act like it's worse than some "proper" classes they have.
