It's kinda shocking to see how race is such a big deal in the United States.

I know, right? The United States is such a developed country, I would even call it the center of the world, and it's incredibly surprising the fact that they still have those kind of ilogical issues.
I call them "ilogical" because I don't know how in 2016 people still judge/hurt others for their skin color. It just doesn't make sense at all to me.

Tbh our society is not that different from theirs, we are still dealing with homophobia, sexism, extremely conservative people, etc. I feel like Latin America would face the same issue with race if it wasn't because we are all mixed.
