So, I'm going to preface this whole thread with this: I'm not trying to ass-kiss here. I have no reason to. Also, there's a TL;DR at the end since I know the only reading you guys want to do is on each other.

I see a lot of comments about how ATRL is "corrupt", as if this website is supposed to be a democracy and the "leaders" aren't listening to their people...but that simply is not the case. ATRL is a dictatorship (and no, I don't mean that negatively.)

The most apt way I can think to describe this is if you decided to stay over at someone's house. If you want to stay at their house, you have to follow their rules. You don't get a say in their rules, and you don't have the authority to question any decisions they make about their house hold. Also, if at any time, they want you to leave for any reason, they have every right to do so without explaining why to you. It's their house, after all.

Similarly, as long as you choose to use ATRL, you agree to all their terms and conditions, and if at any time, they want you gone for any reason, they have that right. They have the right to close your threads, delete your posts, and ban you for any reason they want, and they do NOT owe any explanations. Assuming you didn't lie when you said "I agree to the Terms and Conditions" when signing up, you would know this and have no problems with this fact, seeing as you said you agreed.

If you don't agree with how this site is run, you clearly lied when you signed up.

TL;DR: This site is a dictatorship, not a democracy. You should know and accept this, rather than complain about this site being unfair.

I agree somewhat. I think some arbitrary rules like nicknames should be overturned when the majority of users are against them. But for the most part, everybody knows what they're getting into on here & if they don't want to be a part of it, they should find a different forum.

Your "play by their rules, you're in their house!" line is illegitimate because most of the time the mods don't play by these rules themselves and make up their own rules.

The mods don't owe anyone an explanation, but it's in their best interest to in stop people from migrating to other sectors of the net (and making them lose money from ad revenue). Plus, some ATRL members (ATRL+) are paying consumers, they have the right to demand/suggest/complain.

ATRL is very corrupt. And so are you for thinking it's not. Seek help. And possibly guidance.

They reserve the right to warn people for any reason. If that reason is that they're a pressed panini because they didn't like what someone has to say, they can do that.

Now, if they *did* do that, they'd eventually lose all their users, so they most likely wouldn't, but they do reserve that right.

It's not a dictatorship or a democracy. It's a business. As long as there's members willing to overlook the strict rules it doesn't matter, but if members start leaving the site because of the mods and the rules then there's a problem.

Well the mods are like the "parents" of a house hold, who are not bound by the same rules as the "children", so to speak.

I think if a mod went *too* far over the line, though, they'd be demoted. It's happened before.

This would be more accurate, I suppose. People ARE free to move on to a "better service" if they so choose, but complaining about things you agreed to when signing up is useless.
