The graying of America due to the Baby Boomer era is going to come to an end over the next two decades. Notice how we're likely going to have 2 Democratic presidents back to back. That hasn't happened since the 60's.

Yeah. It will be interesting in the future. It's wierd because the Democratic Party isn't really getting much bigger either. The amount of independents has skyrocketed over the past couple decades. Maybe a new major party will emerge sometime within our lifetime from all these independents to replace a mostly dying Republican Party.

The Republican Party replaced the wigs around the time of the civil war which was a time period of great change. Currently we are in another time period of great change so anything is possible.

For starters, the Libertarian party can't be dismissed if Johnson is really expected to land 5+ percent of the popular vote, and the Green party has attracted a lot of attention (although it hasn't translated into much support).

I can also imagine several different factions rising from the ashes of the Republican party; the religious core (Evangelicals who will continue opposing abortion, gay rights, etc), the alt-right (racist scum), the "new right" (who will move left on some issues to try to broaden appeal), the tea party, etc.

The GOP voting base doesn't want Rubio, though, as they proved in the primaries. They wanted a racist troll. How are they supposed to pull a 180? The Republican Party is dying, and like everyone else has said, needs a complete overhaul if the dying political vets want to see their legacy continue for the next 20 years, if it even lasts that long.

They would fare a lot better if their entire platform weren't prejudice against gays openly and women and minorities subtlety.

But you also have their economic policies which have proven time and again to be bad for the economy. I really don't know why people think Democrats are bad for economic growth. They say Democrats raise taxes. Well you need taxes you support a country. No way around it. The problem is spending that tax money on stupid things like a war in Iraq or national defense. Don't get me wrong, we need national defense but nowhere need the amount we have. I believe we outspend every other major country COMBINED on our military.

I see the alt-right growing more and more so long as the far-left continues to become the new acceptable "norm".
