It still has a long way to profitability when you consider that theatres keep half the gross, and Disney spent a ton to market the film. But with merchandising + kids movies making a killing on DVD it will end up with a tidy profit. Plus it's still doing well in theatres.

Actually, a movie needs to make about three times of it's budget to generate pure profit at boxoffice.

Tangled will not be profitable at its theater release. I think it will profit form merchandise and DVD, though, the market of those two are both skewing, so the margin will not be massive.

I watched it today a very good movie indeed!

Well it probably still needs to double this amount in order to make somewhat a profit.

Idk, Disney always spends so much money on their animated films. I know animation is expensive, but THIS expensive?!

That hair must have been hard to animate.

It really was so much better than I expected, and so much better than the crappy trailers.

It took about six years to make this movie. The storyline was also changed to fit larger target audience (Thus the use of a male character). Also the fact that animation movies cost a lot, this one was made in a special way to look like painting.

But still, while the movie was gorgeous and animation is expensive, 260M is a LOT. Other animated films are made at much more manageable budgets. 150M would have been more understandable.

^^ Yep, and they also changed all the actors, and made others redue their voices.

Maybe they included the promotion budget in the total budget?
