Black students wear all black; cops swarm the school
Quote:
Black clothing prompted an increased police presence at Collierville High School Wednesday.
Instead of dressing up in patriotic clothing for the schools "America Day," students wore black to make a statement.
A spokesperson with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office told FOX13 extra deputies were on campus as a precaution because there were rumors of an after school fight. Collierville Police were also on campus, but the Collierville High School did not call any police.
Students who wore the black clothes say the rumors were unfounded, and that the decision to dress in black was just a statement.
"We all wore black because black lives matter," said Artavious Morris.
It was a quiet statement that provoked a loud response.
When students, like Artavious, Brennan, Sami, and Jordan got out of school, they were surprised by the amount of police outside.
"After school they thought we were going to have a riot with the other students. And they had extra police officers, security guards and everything after school. We couldn't even take a picture up the street, they followed us...everywhere, legit everywhere," said Morris.
OK racists, ya'll think it's unacceptable to protest in the streets and kneel for the National Anthem.
And now making a silent statement is wrong? It seems like there is no form of protest or statement that racists are comfortable with. Maybe it isn't the protest, but rather the message you don't like.
I remember when Obama first won presidency we all wore black at school & they tried to suspend us for "gang affiliation" or something like that. It was ******** but I also went to a PWI.
If there were really rumors of an after school fight then police are just doing their jobs. Especially with the types of violent protest we've seen. Would you rather them not be there and something happens?
Not surprised at this one bit. Only thing I'm surprised about is the school allowing these kids to wear all-black skin every other day this school year without the police being called.

No fight happening, why are they following around these young people wearing black all the way down the street where they are taking pictures?

School claims that they didn't make a call to the police to report anything. Therefore they had nothing but unfounded rumours that a group of minors were going to fight. Sounds like they deployed the army while where I'm from, there's about 2 police officers who stand by during busy leaving school hours. They are also, coincidentally, mainly black students living in boroughs around the city. I haven't heard any reports of black students being gunned down nor the police that our taxes pay for, issuing presence based on rumours. Aren't police supposed to work on the basis of facts? No one called them?
Edit: I don't know why I said rural. I don't live in the countryside
If students (any student: for the cause, against it, neutral etc.) were talking/ spreading rumors about a possible riot, then it's understandable why the school would get more security.
With that said, I hope the students won't let an incident like this discourage them. What they did was commendable, a great way to make statement.
