Today, while I was having breakfast with my brother, I was discussing with him about when a decade begins. I have seen that many people here--myself included-- have considered a decade of music from 2000 to 2009 to do their countdowns.

But beyond that, I was wondering when does a decade really start. According to my brother a decade starts every year that finishes in 1 and ends every year that finishes in 0, whereas I said that a decade starts every year that starts with zero. Things got heat after a while and I could find a final explanation.

So, 2000-2009 or 2001-2010 ?. I would appeciate some help about this.

Last decade was 2000-2009, current decade is 2010-2019.

Centuries are the ones that start when the year ends in "01" (not "1" otherwise a century would be starting next year )

Chronologically a decade should begin with the number one being the last digit. (Example 2001, 1901) because there was no such thing as a Year 0. The the calendar started in A.D. (Year) 1, but for whatever reason, people consider any year that ends in Zero to be the start of a new decade. Example 2000, 2010, 2020.

So I would just go by common standards.

People get confused with the 00's... Because clearly 1990-1999 is the 90's and so on and so forth.

Yeah, some people still think it's the 00s. We're in the 10s now.

2000's = 2000-2009; we are in 2010's, and that's the way it is. How the hell the 90's could be from 1991-2000? Or the 70's from 1971-1980, and not counting the year which, basically, gives the name of the decade (1970)? Lol is just my kindergarden reasoning.
