It depends on the time since I guess.

I think that if you genuinely have something to say in response to someone's post and it has only been a day or two since the post (and you didn't notice it or something) then it's fine.

It's also fine if there's a significant development.

I don't see the problem if it's with news on the topic or if it's a thread with a question and you're still waiting for answers.
