Katy's manager angry at Spotify after 'Rise' Apple exclusive
Quote:
Insiders at Spotify say that Katy Perry manager Martin Kirkup went apeshit on the streamery's execs recently over the Spot's removal of Perry's songs from key playlists following her Apple exclusive. The sound of whining was said to resound throughout the building, but Kirkup's tirade reportedly had little impact, with said insiders deeming the manager a blowhard.
Despite what the haters think "Rise" didn't flop "just because it's a bad song". There were real problems going on behind the scenes with this release. It was definitely noticed by fans that "Rise" was on NONE of the top playlists after the one week Apple exclusive. In fact it was added to one, then swiftly removed less than an hour later.
And this is really dangerous for artists like Katy Perry, who's music and succes depends on stuff like this and not on actual quality or on being a diverse artist/performer.
I am not surprised he went crazy with it. I mean, who wouldn't? The money making machine might be stopped and Katy Perry might be cancelled indeed.
Let's hope she will be able to reinforce and create something that doesn't need to be a smash and is just a good quality song, which Rise was not.
Wasn't there a Blind Gossip about this too? How Katy's performance at the DNC and an awkward radio interview burned her on radio, caused NBC to drop her as the theme song, and caused her to be removed from playlists.
