Lip-syncing is such a hot topic today (mostly because of my fave's recent performances) and this made me go back to the time when Beyonce had a publicized lip-syncing incident some years back. Beyonce has had a share of mishaps and although her image has changed, her response back then was:
Quote:
I am a perfectionist... I didn't have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show. It was a very, very important show for me. One of my proudest moments...
...I did not feel comfortable taking a risk... I wanted to make him (the President) and my country proud. I decided to sing along to my pre-recorded track which is very common in the music industry and I'm very proud of my performance.
I really liked her response as she stood by her decision to lip-synch. However, there seems to be a double standard among other artists these days. Many popular artists considered vocalists lip-synch (Mariah, Celine, etc.) but it ended careers of others (Ashlee Simpson) and some continue to get flack (Britney)? Beyonce said it herself, it is standard practice in the industry to lip-synch (some even argue it as 'professional') and she was even proud of her performance.
So my question is, if someone asked Britney this same question after the VMA's and gave the same answer, would she be as easily forgiven as Beyonce was back then?
Beyonce lipsyncing is different to Britney lipsyncing.
Beyonce lipsyncs to enable the best performance so she'll often switch between live/pre-recorded vocals and in this case did pre-recorded vocals to make sure she put on a good performance for Obama.
We don't really know why Britney lipsyncs as it's unlikely her voice is terrible (though obvi it won't be as good as it used to be) but the way she does it is kind of messy. She doesn't record a live version of the track like Beyonce does, she just lipsyncs to the studio. It doesn't sound real and she doesn't always lipsync well.
I love Britney and I don't blame her, just her stupid team (they should be the ones guiding her).
In short, no because what Britney does is different and it's not like Make Me was as good as a Beyonce performance.

I would say it's pretty likely her voice is terrible. Have you heard Glory? The vocal production is all over the place.
I mean, Beyoncé lip synced professionally. The other girls you mentioned don't do that.
Beyonce is very convincing and I applaud her for that, but just because she hides it better doesn't change the fact that she is still doing it. The way other artists are criticized for it make it seem like they deserve to be thrown stones at.

Oop!
Also, the conditions for singing at the Inauguration were god awful. It was freezing weather in an outdoor venue, which is can bring great strain to the vocal chords. While I obviously applaud Kelly's decision to sing live and slay it, even Yo-Yo Ma bow-synced his performance in 2008 due to the weather, and Whitney did the same thing in the 90s as not to disappoint her country at a critical moment, so it was really an understandable decision.
Well, for one, that performance meant a lot to her I'm sure just like Beyonce did singing for the president. I can totally see her giving the same response, but judging by your reply, be not forgiven the same way at all.
I can't remember a single performance in OVER 10 years where Britney's mic was even turned on. At least Beyonce can back up her performances on occasion. Whereas with Brit I need to see receipts that it's even her voice that ends up on the studio version because you NEVER hear her live. No one knows what her singing voice sounds like in 2016. That's a problem, if you want to be considered a "legend"
I don't care for it. I'm sure she would have sounded the same had she sang live. I've seen countless acts perform in the rain and they weren't lip synching. They still sounded as good too.
I don't think it's right when you're presumably giving a live performance to go ahead and lip synch to it. I guess I'm a little biased since my fave has never lipped. Aside from filming music videos where you're just doing a visual to an album track.
