I studied German in school for a couple years. Then I had a year off. Now I'm starting to continue learning it for my last couple years in school. My teacher told us that in this part of the course we're gonna have to start watching German TV, movies and listening to German music. But I'm not listening to any old German music, I'm looking for the German pop girls. The German Gaga, Katy, Rihanna etc. Can anyone help me? Wether the girls or the songs are popular or not. I just want female pop singers. Thanks.
I just knew somebody would post Helene and her "Blitzkrieg durch die Nacht". God, I loathe that woman.
If you don't dismiss bands with female singers there are Wir Sind Helden. "Von Hier An Blind" is my favourite song and the lyrics are also quite clever.
MIA with "Tanz der Moleküle" is great, too. Although they have better songs.
these are not really pop, more a mix between pop and alternative.
Sarah Connor is bigger than ever with her German-speaking album. She was a flop before that but she totally reinvented herself. Her new songs are no bops though, with a few exceptions - rather slow but I like it.
If you want to listen to German pop music, I'd recommend Nena tbh. Yeah, she might not be very relevant/current but her 80s stuff is quite good, "99 Luftballons", "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann" and all that. If you want to listen to music by German pop artist that does not necessarily feature German lyrics, I recommend you get into Madeline Juno, she's my fave
