Don't get me wrong half of the time it's not meant to be offensive but when I compare it to saying something like "The Blacks" I can't help wonder if the term "The gays" is offensive.
I'm probably being silly but what do you lot think?
If they're not trying to be offensive, then it doesn't bother me. It's just weird because gay people have diverse personalities and ways of life. Saying "the gays" kinda implies that we're all the same when we're not.
I think generally 'gays' isn't used in a negative way (homophobes tend to opt for 'homosexuals') whereas terms like 'blacks', 'jews' and 'transgenders' are so I think that's probably why it's more accepted than terms like those.
I could totally understand if gay people found it offensive though.
I hate when people say that they "love the gays" and group us all together as if we're all the same. Being gay doesn't define a person, so how someone can love/like them all is beyond me. What really gets me are those straight girls who are like "OMG I want a gay best friend, we can go shopping" So gross and obnoxious, we're still human
