Who do you believe?

Are the U.S swimmers, including gold medalist Ryan Lochte, lying for some reason?

Or is Brazil trying to cast doubt on their claims to avoid bad press internationally?

I believe Lochte. King wouldn't lie.

And it would be a MASSIVE lie. They were officially interviewed by the FBI, the Olympic committee, and like 3 other organizations.

There have been numerous robberies—the Brazilian court wouldn't go this far if it truly wasn't suspicious... and after the video and stories of conflicting reports, the investigation is completely rational. I think the guys were doing things their family/wives/coaches would be upset about so they made up a quick, stupid lie that obviously escalated.

It would be stupid for them to lie. I feel like they are hiding some details though because they might have been doing something very shady. Like at a brothel or something.

They probably blew their cash on hookers and drugs tbh. And if they had gfs and wives I can see why they lied. I mean it doesn't make sense that Lochte said they stole all of his cash but let him keep jewellery, his expensive cell phone, and his medals. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

But what would be the point of filing a false police report? It's not like authorities give you back the money you had stolen.

The swimmers didn't call the police after the robbery, just told their family. Lochte's mother went to the media and the story made its way up to the IOC—that's when the authorities investigated.

I believe Brazil, this all seems kind of suspicious. Brazil already has lots of bad press so I don't see why they need to avoid one more piece of it.
