What skills should schools teach to better prepare you for life?
I think..

1. How to do your taxes.

2. How to handle money.
My sister is 27 with a good paying job and she blows through money like cazy. Like she's very book smart but otherwise an irresponsible dummy

3. Cooking skills.

4. Self Defense!!! This should be number one. Everyone should learn self defense.

I might be missing some so what do you think?

When you graduate high school, you should know how to write a check... so many people (lowkey including myself) know all this AP **** but can't do that

where're you from? i thought most schools did cooking class tbh because all the ones in my area have them! like we'd have 3 months of cooking class, 3 months of woodwork then 3 months textiles (sowing and stuff) each year and it was mandatory for the first 3 years.

i wish schools would teach how to properly create a resume/CV, like.. i'm stumped

most schools already do cooking classes.
but the other three for sure. like, what's the point of having specifial math & economy type classes and barely teaching students how to handle their finances?

& also, a sex ed class but a REAL sex ed class that discusses rape, abusive relationships, & more. just dont keep it at one topic, make each grading period over a different subject tbh

Fiance, how to travel, how to buy a car, how to take out insurance, how to rent a house, how to buy a house, real sex education etc.

All these REAL LIFE things you don't get taught. I'm 18 and moved out on my own earlier this year and half the things that i didn't know... i was SHOOK

if were talking the high school level i would say

1. Finance, like basic stuff that you need to use, and it needs to be hands on, or people will forget it
2. Cooking would be ok-ay, you can figure out how to do that without school, my school didn't do that, but a lot do

I'm from New York they didn't teach jack sh*t lol. I went to a "good schoo"l but learned no life skills. I wish we did woodwork and textiles how cool.

I agree about real sex ed. I had a sex ed/health class and barely learned a thing. It was a catholic school though so they were probably awkward about teaching real stuff. I also think they should teach more about social issues. Like sexuality, gay rights, racial stuff, sexism, gender stuff idk lol. That way if you have a f*cked up home environment where they teach you to be a bigot, school should counter that.

Basically what everyone mentioned. Finance. Buying a house/car. Insurance.

Because I was SHOOK when I entered the "real world". Thank god I had family members who were able to teach me these things and guide me though so it was a bit easier. I know so many people though who were basically f****ed after high school because they didn't have much knowledge of this.

Swimming, financial literacy, coding, ethics & citizenship

Money and food stuff.

I hate this answer - people always say it.

Your employer gives you a sheet, and you follow the instructions.
If you have investments, you get a sheet in the mail, and you follow the instructions.

Tax forms are nothing but, literally, bullet pointed steps to follow. If someone can't figure out how to pay their taxes, its because school didn't teach them how to read.

Source: My job as a tax accountant only exists because people, for whatever reason, don't want to read.

Now, financial PLANNING on the other hand, should be taught. No questions.
