For me this works really well:
-20-30 minutes of treadmill 4 times a week, and 10 minutes of crunches + light weights after.
-Brown rice/pasta, whole wheat bread.
-No soda. No juice unless I squeeze it myself. Store-bought juice is worse than Coke.
-No sweets except dark chocolate.
-I try to avoid dairy products.
-I love eating out

so I try to be careful with what I order.
-I eat and snack all day, but I'm careful what I eat, and this prevents binge eating. Smaller portions.
Simple, commonsense, sensible. No fad diets. Lifestyle diets.
Edit: oh, and Sunday cheat day.
