Celeb News: Daily Mail: It's not manly to hug other men

Much of homophobia directed at gay men is very much based in sexism. Basically, these folks think that women are lesser, so men who act “feminine” or who carry out behaviors they believe should only exist between women, are doing a great disservice to men as a whole. It’s disgusting nonsense, but it prevails in everything from little boys who wear “feminine” clothing being called slurs, to single mothers being told they are going to turn their children into [insert-gay-slur-here] by robbing them of a male presence. Apparently too much hugging makes you gay, and being gay makes you not manly.

This is so stupid of them, although they didn't call them gay for hugging, that is what they implied and that is not okay to say that two men hug is automatically gay, BUT also as gays I think we need to stop being so thirsty and turning images like this into our own gay fantasies, because that is doing exactly the same thing as what the Daily Mail did… it puts the hug in a frame of gayness. However different the situations are (one is shaming and the other is a celebrating gayness), it’s still sexualizing something that is not sexual at all.

And don’t get me started on how problematic it is that gays put straight men on such a pedestal of sexuality.
