A big magazine like Vogue wouldn't have a spelling mistake. Whoever did it, did it on purpose.

They are correct, but it sounds so awkward now that *** is modernised to mean something else.
I mean people don't use the word "fa**ot" to describe a pile of sticks
Some words just don't sound as professional.
Good on Vougue for being articulate, but most people won't realise.
