Could Buffy the Vampire Slayer be making a comeback? According to Sarah Michelle Gellar, it's a possibility.
It's been nearly two decades since the 39-year-old actress first appeared as the beloved Buffy Summers on the thrilling TV series. While speaking at the #BlogHer16 exposition at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles on Friday, Gellar reflected on her iconic character and how time has changed what a "bully" is today.
"You never know!" she teased about the possibility, as the crowd erupted into excitement. "Hold on – you never know… but that being said, the point of Buffy, what was so special about it was, it was a metaphor of the horrors of high school. The monsters were literally the manifestation of the horrors of that time. That's a very specific story. I don't know what that story is now."
"The whole idea of Buffy giving her power at the end -- what you can follow and what [producers] could reboot is any of those young slayers coming today," she continued. "Bullies were a literal bully when Buffy was growing up. Now bullies hide behind a screen. Buffy would have to be told by someone of that age."
No reboot. Do a sequel series where the Slayer population is returned to one and it's a new age for Slayers - then introduce how a Slayer in today's world works. If they can, rope Xander in as the new Watcher.
It could still Slay tbh, especially with some updated effects.
If they did a '15 years later' type of deal that picked off from where the series ended, it could be an interesting way of pleasing fans and not undermining the show by remaking it...yet still reintroduce it to a new generation.
What would the Buffyverse be like now?
Maybe Buffy disappeared entirely to go live her life in peace, and the reboot follows the new cast trying to find her for whatever reason.
Maybe Buffy is the Principal of Slayer Academy, teaching the new generations with Willow etc.
Maybe slayers and demons have gone public because of the Internet and it was too hard to keep it quiet.
Maybe demon populations have been knocked back so severely that slayers are seen as unnecessary and dangerous, which leads to them being ostracised.
There are so many ways they could take it, and there'd be ways of it essentially being a reboot with a central slayer and friends, and incorporating the original series and characters from cameos to recurring roles.

As long as Joss is on board, I'd have faith.
Literally so many great ideas
I'd only love it if Joss is on board since he literally made the best episodes
