How to Be a Successful Male Pop Singer?
It's not easy to be a successful male pop singer in 2010, in the US at least. It's not that big right now. Justin Timberlake is on break, and Usher is throwing out some pop anthems between his R&B songs. The only male pop singers we really have are new ones trying to break in to the business, like Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, Iyaz, and Taio Cruz.
Over the past year it seems like Taio Cruz is the one that's going to stick. They all have lackluster album sales, but something about Taio's singles are giving him longevity on radio and digital sales. Does he have an image differing from the formers, or are his songs the right blend of dance and pop to be successful radio hits. What does a male singer have to do to be extremely successful now, and can it even still be done?

Song's from the males have been sounding the same to me(usher, jason and taio).
I think if one steps outside the box once again, it'll be interesting again.

Well first of all they need to be original and have their own sound, and not sound like other artists.

I hope they don't stick around.
Jay Sean is great and Taio makes great party music.

Either be a pre-pubescent boy that appeals to both 20 yr olds and children OR look good in underwear.

They all suck.
I need some pop boys with vocals.
Where are the male Beyoncé's, Xtina's, Leona's?
It's sad that I know plenty of non famous boys who can sing for filth, yet in the industry hardly any male is bringing any vocals.

In all honesty I like very few male popstars.
Usher, Justin Timberlake and Example. I would say others but it could be argued that they aren't 'pop'.
Males tend to have more success in Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock and Alternative. Pop tends to be run by the ladies.

Adam Lambert's album sales aren't too bad (~750k US, 1M+ WW) and it's still on the BB200 a full year after release. I think he has potential if his next album is good. His label is stupid for not releasing another single.

Taio seems like he'll stick? Jason has better sales than them all, and actually has a chance.
EDIT: Bruno & Bieber will also stay around.

Bruno definitely has potential, I find it hard to define him as a popstar though.
Genre boundaries are so blurred these days, a good thing until you talk about these sorts of things.

you forgot abour Bruno Mars, whose debut album is incredibly amazing, one of the best male albums in recent years. He is different from the male artists that have been appearing this year, nice lyrics, great voice, good style, two hits until now. His sophomore album will be his challenge, needs to be awesome.
another one is definetely Adam Lambert, one of the greates male voices of all time. i see him having a long career only if he tries to reinvent himself in each album. FYE was amazing (even though the cover of the album was awful), specially songs like Whataya Want From Me, he should make more like that one.
B.o.B. is a great rapper, i hope his label supports him in the long future.
Mike Posner has some good songs in his debut album, he is cool.
Justin Bieber has the potential, he is not that bad, used to hate him but not anymore.
Enrique Iglesias is relaunching his career in the U.S., I love I Like It.
Cee Lo Green, it's like soul, I love **** You
