Idina Menzel has been cast in the role originated by Bette Midler in the upcoming Beaches remake from Lifetime.
According to Deadline, the Tony winning "Let It Go" icon will star as CC and yes, she will cover the iconic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love” in the TV movie.
The 1988 tearjerker from director Garry Marshall starred Bette Midler as CC, an aspiring singer and Barbara Hershey as Hillary, two girls who meet on on the Atlantic City boardwalk and become lifelong friends. The contemporary remake will include changes to the original such as the pair will meet at the Venice Beach boardwalk in Los Angeles.
Lifetime has yet to announce their Hillary.
Production on the remake will begin Aug. 15 in Vancouver and is slated to air sometime in 2017.
Even though this is on Lifetime, I'm kinda here for this. I wonder if Bette will approve?
Oh my godddd! Beaches is one of my fav movies! Not sure how I feel about them doing a remake though but I definitely will be watching it. Also Idina doesn't seem like a bad choice, I can see her doing well as CC but no one can do it like Queen Bette!
