What’s most surprising is the curious shortage of chemistry among the four leads, who never quite appear comfortable as a unit despite their overlapping screen histories. There’s minimal evidence of a connection in their scenes here, which are often flat and sagging under the weight of dead air. Concept suffocates comedy at almost every step.

Chris Hemsworth [gives a] wooden performance that sucks the comic energy out of his every scene.

The high curiosity factor, the stars’ popularity and moviegoers’ deep affection for the property should generate decent opening numbers for Sony [but] nostalgic nods to the progenitor only serve as a reminder of the charm that’s lacking here, sacrificed to bland, effects-laden bloat and uninspired writing, making this a missed opportunity.

I think people just don't like Melissa McCarthy. Melissa McCarthy is essentially the female Adam Sandler, in that no matter how terrible both Adam Sandler and Melissa McCarthy are as actors, and no matter how awful their films tends to be, they both have a built in fanbase that will see anything they put out, regardless of the scathing reviews. I guess that's the silver lining—that "Ghostbusters" will still pull decent numbers, despite it being an allegedly "witless" and "unfunny mess."

I'm personally still waiting for a current all-female comedy to actually make me laugh.

I haven't laughed at a female-led comedy since "Death Becomes Her" with Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn: "En garde, bitch."
"Trainwreck" was awful. "Bridesmaids" is overrated. "Sisters" was okay, at best. The outlook is very bleak.
