Honestly most Americans are not CONSUMED with hatred and racism. We have to remember that there are over 300 million people in the US. Lets compare racial issued in the 50-60s to today. Yes we have police officer shootings but hate crimes are way lower. I mean you can never expect full unity but I think we are more united than before.

That's not to say this country is in such a ~beautiful~ place but I'd say overall, it's not as divided as it seems. The media sensationalizes and focuses on the racist people as they bring more hits and views but they're not the majority.

It used to be much worse tbqh. Gays weren't as accepted as they are now. Race relations were even worse tbqh.

Everything was bubbling under the surface but the younger peeps don't have it. They want to be treated equally as everyone else. I get the feeling that people don't realize how much progress has been made in recent years. The fact that there is even a #BLM right now. That didn't used to exist and police were killing black people left and right since blacks were freed.

The divisions that do exist are the result of the internet. They allow you to live in a bubble online. Your facebook feeds and google searches etc are based on what your stated interests and opinions are. Plus people are a lot more vocal than they used to be about their politics and civil rights issues.
