Perhaps it's because his statement seems very try hard to appease a certain audience.
Also, he doesn't celebrate as much as he is heavily influenced by the black culture and is benefiting from being a more commercially appealing artist for mainstream.
I can admire when people not looked at as black (even if they are mixed with it) stand up but I think less is more in that case (and that doesn't mean say nothing but be concise)
With black celebs the more they say the better because there is an identified relationship you can draw from
it's tacky
