The largest demonstration in British history revolved around this, with at least a million (one estimate as high as 3 million, but that's unlikely) people marching through London a month before the war started. Plus 100 thousand in Scotland and 20 thousand in Northern Ireland.
So you could say British people weren't particularly thrilled about it.
