What’s the difference between getting a nose job and changing your skin colour?’ she says in the Facebook Live video.
‘Nobody was upset when I was wearing 30-inch weaves and tearing out my edges and doing all that type of sh*t like that. You guys loved it.’
She responded by saying that skin bleaching shouldn’t be seen in cultural terms as assimilation is the norm in the world now.
‘I don’t really think it’s important to discuss the cultural importance of skin bleaching anymore because just as African-American people in this world, you assimilate,’ she explained. ‘There are things that you accept not out of necessity, but things that become the norm because it’s just happening all of the time.’
Azealia thinks the African-American community should focus more securing reparation for their historic maltreatment by the US rather than who wears cornrows.
I told you all two years ago that as a black woman I stand for reparations and autonomy. All of the rest of the **** is petty. Cultural appropriation, who wears what, natural hair, relaxed, bleached or not, NONE of us will be getting any real respect until we've been given what we are owed. And I think it's unfair to the cause to negate all of the very IMPORTANT things I've said in regards to that, just because I like to relax my hair and lighten my skin. As a group it's VERY important to stay focused and not get side tracked by these small moments of artists "putting it in the music," because they do so and then they disappear/aren't coming up with any REALISTIC solutions to all of the pain and suffering we go through as a people. Galvanizing behind a leader who's ultimate goal is to receive reparations is the ONLY WAY out of this. If you didn't understand it two years ago, and still don't get it now and still continue to get hung up on petty **** or be satisfied when super rich black people who don't live the daily struggle make a song about it or raise a fist ..... Then I guess we truly are ****ed.
Shes 100% hypocrite. I would respect her faux-punk contrarian philosophies more if she owned them, if she didn't contradict herself at every turn. I dont think its right that people continue to defend her nonsensical rants anymore. Its one thing to say "relaxing your hair" is the same thing (even though its really not at all as drastically an issue), but she goes on these really harsh rants towards Beyonce and Nicki for conforming to white-in-black culture thats supposedly problematic to her and then she goes and does the same thing and then plays the victim when people just do what she does and call her out on it. She needs to stop playing the victim and once and for all accept the kind of perception she puts out there herself; not racism, not gender bias, not lack of commerciality. Her problem is literally the way she expresses herself and its not okay. And I can give a **** about being sensitive or politically correct but azealia is one big annoying mess of contradictions and I dont accept her contrarian hypocrisies. I just cant anymore.
She better not ever fix her mouth to say something about Iggy again.
She's officially dead to me now.
Bleaching your skin?
Disgusting.
She is a hypocrite though. Called out Iggy time and time again for misappropriating a southern black female accent to rap with and then goes ahead and bleaches her skin...
you guys totally defeated her
she just gave in becuase y'all kept dragging her instead of listening to what she had to say
What she had to say was b/s. Honestly. She can not mouth off incredibly harsh towards other people for succumbing to such things and then do them herself and get mad for being called out on it. She cant be that much of a contrarian extremist and not live up to her own standards. What about that do her stans not get?
