I believe just in 2010 the ban on openly gays and lesbians was lifted in the Army as well

And just in 2015 gay marriage became legal across the nation

So I'm not surprised this just happened. The LQBTQ+ movement and equal rights is still in the process. I'm sure we will hear more laws lifted in the future
