The fact we're surprised when Rihanna delivers a great vocal speaks volumes, hopefully one day she reaches a level where a slay is expected from her. If she gives up smoking and really takes care of her voice, the sky is the limit for her. The improvement is great though, her best vocal moments are from this year alone

Did you post the correct video because the one I just watched was an awful example if so. The pitchy screeches as she attempts to trill, the goat like vibrato, the off key riffs.

Although I do prefer her more thorough and deeper vocals now.

Plenty of deep vocals during the RR era/album. She does have a deeper voice nowadays unlike the more pitchy tone in the beginning of her career but her vocal technique now is driving me nuts. She can't sing a whole phrase anymore or would constantly growl or do some weird falsettos which no one called for.
She's never reaching that level of flawlessness ever again, i'm afrad.
