News: China cuts contact with Taiwan

"Because the Taiwan side has been unable to confirm the '92 consensus that embodies the common political foundation of the one-China principle, the mechanism for contact and communication between the two sides has already been suspended," the statement quoted An as saying.

The '92 consensus refers to an arrangement made in 1992 under which both sides acknowledged the existence of a single Chinese nation comprising both Taiwan and the mainland. That understanding underpinned dialogue between the sides that allowed them to build ties and partially overcome enmity stemming from their bitter split amid the Chinese civil war in 1949. Tsai has neither formally endorsed nor repudiated the construct.

The Chinese statement, which came after Taiwan protested Cambodia's deportation of 25 Taiwanese internet scam suspects to China, appears to signify a significant step in retaliation for Tsai's pro-Taiwanese independence stance.

As a Hongkonger I could tell. Mainland China is a corruption hell, and it is normal and ok. The money they got from corruption will spend overseas on lot, remittence and etc to avoid investigation. Literally everything will have corruption like donation for natural disaster. Recently, Hong Kong government initially donate to mainland with over 100 million without consultation. As well as a lot of unlimited and questionable defer on some construction like train, and the workers are not given their salary for months. China has a lot inside jobs to steal money from the cities that live under different laws and policies. Macow, Hong Kong, Taiwan will be soon

To be left alone means more freedom and less control with the local government, so its a good thing. Dun forget the fact Taiwan is opened for gay, a big part of the reason of that is Taiwan are managed by local government not ppl from mainland
