The Best of Nelly Furtado' is a musical masterpiece." – Music Review
“The Best of Nelly Furtado” is filled with the Canadian singer’s greatest hits. Usually a greatest hits album has a couple hits and the rest are highly praised B-sides. Furtado first came onto the scene in 2000 with the album “Whoa, Nelly!” This album spawned the hits “I’m Like A Bird” and “Turn Off The Light,” which incidentally kick off “The Best of Nelly Furtado.”
“Whoa, Nelly!” put Furtado on the map; however her momentum slowed down with her second album “Folklore.” That didn’t phase Furtado though as she returned a few years later with the hit album “Loose.” This album surpassed musical greatness with the monster hits “Promiscuous,” “Maneater,” and “Say It Right.”
From that point on, Furtado became a legitimate superstar. “The Best of Nelly Furtado” sees a nice combination and arrangement of all the hits that make Furtado what she is today – an international pop superstar. With her mark made in America, the singer put out an all Spanish album called “Mi Plan.” Although this album did not have as much success as her previous efforts, “Mi Plan” was critically acclaimed.
What’s interesting about Furtado’s song style is the diversity of musical tastes that are showcased in her music. These fascinating arrays of cultures that influence Furtado give her a universal appeal to many audiences. “The Best of Nelly Furtado” is a 17 song masterpiece that gives fans a full spectrum of Nelly Furtado’s career. This album will not disappoint.
Nelly stopped working on her hit Maneater for a while as she was convinced the beat had “the devil in it”.
"This is true - there are many witnesses who were there: When we recorded Maneater a speaker caught fire. It started smoking and a flame shot out of the speaker, which nobody at the Hit Factory in Miami had ever seen before in the 40 years the studio has been there.
We put that beat on, and it was so rumbling and rapturous and pagan that it incited a fire! We actually were scared of the beat. We felt like it had the devil in it, or something. We put it away for a few weeks, until we had the courage to play it again. It was life-threatening! Someone almost got first-degree burns."
LOL I'm actually surprised she said that!
There were too much attention towards Maneater's video, since nelly appeared with no arms for 1 second in the video... I didn't get if it was footage...
