Despite Japanese actors and actress are very good looking and nice; for very long time, people don't see any live-action Japanese films which achieve international recognition.

The bad film Attack on Titan showed many weakness of Japanese live-action film industry, in acting, directing, effects, development.... This film was a huge disappointment (despite featuring very good looking cast), and generated poor box office gross outside Japan

good looking actors cant help a crappy writing. the number one cause of a live action film to be a failure is when they deviate from he source material. Japanese manga fans are very anal about sticking to the manga (they got pissed off when Misa didnt have blonde hair in the death note live action).

I dont think live action is dead but if a live action movie is going to be made it needs incredible cgi and it needs to stick to the source material and non deviate too much

Source material derivation is definitely part of the downfall in a lot of live actions, some of the decisions ala character design (hair) should not be happening unless it's too difficult to create (which is strange with CGI advancements today). However the thing is something is gonna have to be cut for these mangas they choose to translate into live portrayals.

So with that I think they just need to pick better material on to make these films with as well, just cause it made a good anime doesn't mean it will make a good live action film which is lost on some people.

Their live-action movies are always extremely corny, poorly acted out and poorly written. It's no surprise that it never took off

There are some decent manga adaptations like Helter Skelter and Aku no Kyoten, but I don't know if they are considered to be live action films.

The upcoming Tokyo Ghoul one will most likely suck to be honest.
