Unfortunately it goes hand in hand. The right wing nationalists hated homosexuality all along, along with everything foreign and now they feel it's finally okay for them to express their views.
A few weeks ago an AFD politician publicly stated he wants homosexuality to be a taboo again (it was unclear whether that was what he meant or if he actually wanted gays to be improsoned again - I give him the benefit of the doubt). If these people could they'd turn back time to the 1950s: imprisoning and suppressing gays.
