It seems a peninsula? But then why Long Island is an island?

Just the top left tip is a peninsula, but the entire thing is an island. Both Manhattan and LI are islands because water surrounds all sides...

But it's not oceans it's rivers...

A peninsula is part of an existing land mass. And island is a body of land surrounded by WATER on all sides. A river is a flowing body of water.

But calling Manhattan a peninsula is absurd. A peninsula is something that is connected to a mainland but is surrounded by three sides. What mainland is Manhattan attached to?

And although small pieces of land surrounded by water (oceans, lakes, rivers) may have specific names (like an atoll), they all fall under the island umbrella.

4 of the 5 NYC boroughs are on islands. Bronx is the only one attached to the US mainland.

Then why the Delmarva peninsula is not an island? Same exact situation as Manhattan only larger

It just may not have island in its official title due to the fact that the canal was dug into the existing landmass.

Manhattan is an island. Almost all of New York is islands besides the Bronx.
