In 2016, one question comes to mind - how did we ever survive this year? We did with the help of music. But a larger query looms - what makes music special? We usually determine the answer by waiting for year end lists, and our top 50 is no different. We react to the outside world, as it seems to be continually adjusting to newer and newer 'normals.' The presence, importance, and intangible quality of a single shifts as well, and it's reflected on this list. For the first time, album tracks are placing - and they're placing high. The top ten, which I can't wait to reveal, is perhaps our most diverse and unexpected yet - perfectly fitting a thoroughly displacing year such as this.
