"Taylor Swift threatened Kanye West with criminal prosecution months ago for secretly recording her phone conversation with him ... TMZ has learned.
TMZ has a copy of a letter Taylor's lawyer sent to Kanye's attorney back in February. The lawyer made it clear, under California law, anyone who secretly records a telephone conversation with someone in the state commits a criminal offense ... and it's a felony.
A source connected with Kanye told TMZ the conversation was recorded in an L.A.-area studio."
Well I'm sure they figured it would be well worth being charged with a petty crime like this since they're rich enough to just pay it off without batting an eye and would be ending Taylor simultaneously in the process.
It doesn't matter whether she lied. It is illegal in many states to secretly record a conversation without the other person's consent.
Some of you need to educate yourselves. If someone tried to incriminate you and hurt your image, you wouldn't be laughing. You'd definitely have yourself covered under the law.
They didn't secretly record her. Kanye records all of the making of his album, videos, tours, fashion shows etc. Like most celebs do. lol made it clear on Keeping Up.
Was that supposed to stop Kim from releasing it? It's not like they're going to jail for recording a phone call with no confidential information. They'd just get a fine.

It's legal in some others though, usually used to prove one's innocence.

Which is also why there's defamation suits. I don't think Kim is doing this just for sport. Taylor literally tried to use her image to hurt Kanye's after some reasonable discussion, and then LIED about -- which is why I'm almost certain she's not going to do anything legal. She was wrong.
