The Pirate Bay Taps Last.fm

Popular ******* tracker The Pirate Bay rolled out its expected new music feature, tapping data from Last.fm to show more detailed artist info, easier search tools and tour dates.
According to a rundown on *******Freak, the feature is designed more for users who want to find more music by artists they already know and like than it is a discovery tool for new music. Once entering the name of an artist, for instance, users can ask for more detailed information that will display other albums from the same artists, concert dates and an embedded Last.fm player to stream the music before downloading. It also will display a list of similar artists (also gained from Last.fm's service).
The new music feature basically replaces The Pirate Bay's planned resurrection of the OiNK service, which was shut down last month after a legal challenge. The Pirate Bay says it no longer is working on the BOiNK predecessor it had planned.
Last.fm makes technology tools available to the public allowing virtually anyone to use its data. A company spokesperson says it does not work with any external sites to manage any integration, and did not do so with The Pirate Bay either.
