Anyway getting to the point when did Madonna become the queen of pop and was there a queen before her and after she finally hangs up her crown does someone else automatically become queen or do they have to earn it first? Right out the gate, IMO. She popularize pop music and made the musical genre what it is today. Most of what the current pop stars do today, in some shape or form is a reflection of Madonna, especially videography.

The media started calling her The Queen of Pop right after Like A Virgin. There was no Queen of Pop before her, many were called The Queen of Disco such as Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor.
There was no queen of pop before her because the title queen of pop doesn't have to be inherited its just that she has a great legacy similar to Micheal's there was no king of pop before him and as much as everyone tries NO ONE will ever replace Madonna or Michael as King and Queen of Pop its just how it is

Diana Ross is damn near irrelevant compared to Madonna in Europe. Now I'm not familiar enough with her to know how many pointers Madonna took from her but in terms of overall popularity she completely fades against Madonna
