New Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson Singles Headed for Debuts on Hot 100
Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson should storm next week's Billboard Hot 100 with newly-released singles. The Adam Levine-led group looks likely to start in the top 25 with "Sugar," while Clarkson will also bow with "Heartbeat Song."
"Sugar"
The synthy song is the third single from the band's album V, which has sold 620,000 copies in the U.S. since its September release, according to Nielsen Music. Thanks to the Jan. 14 premiere of its buzzy official video, "Sugar" is on pace for a lofty launch in both streaming and sales.

The clip has drawn 16 million global YouTube views since its posting, likely making for a high debut on next week's Streaming Songs chart (which measures U.S. clicks). In the video, the band goes on a wedding-crashing spree, as Levine announces at the start, "It's Dec. 6, 2014. We're going to drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can. It's going to be awesome." (As Maroon 5 makes its rounds, wedding guests clearly agree.)

The video helped "Sugar" soar to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 (Jan. 16) … ahead of the No. 1 song on the Hot 100, Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars.

The clip is also pushing sales, with
industry prognosticators predicting that "Sugar" will sell more than 150,000 downloads in the week ending Jan. 18. Radio airplay is kicking in, too, with the song set to debut on Pop Songs and Adult Pop Songs next week.
"Heartbeat Song"
After arriving at radio and retail on Jan. 12, the pure-pop track, infused with rock guitars and a hint of trap, should likewise climb aboard next week's Hot 100. The song is the first single from Clarkson's new album Piece by Piece, due in March.

Following two pre-release teaser Tweets from Clarkson about "Heartbeat Song," one adorably starring her six-month-old daughter, River Rose, on Jan. 8 and 9 (resulting in 5,000 retweets), the track bounded to No. 4 on the Trending 140. It jumped to No. 1 on Jan. 12 after the song's official release. (Unlike with "Sugar," Clarkson has not yet released a proper video for her new single, only an official audio clip, above).

Industry forecasters project that "Heartbeat Song" could sell around 60,000 downloads in the week ending Jan. 18. ("Catch My Breath," the lead single from her last [non-seasonal] album, 2012's Greatest Hits, sold 87,000 in its first week. It debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 54 and eventually peaked at No. 19.)

"Heartbeat Song" received hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia-owned adult pop stations on Jan. 12, translating to 377,000 in first-day format audience. The support could help spur the track to a top 20 debut on Adult Pop Songs, while it should also enter Pop Songs next week.
